Symbolism
Temperance shows a winged angel in a white robe, with a triangle inside a square on its chest. One foot rests on land and the other in water, and it pours water from one cup into another without spilling a drop. Irises grow nearby, and in the background a path climbs toward the mountains, where a crown-shaped light glows. In the 1909 art, everything is calm and fluid: the art of blending opposites in just the right measure.
In general
Temperance is the card of balance. It shows up when a situation calls for patience, moderation and the ability to bring different things together: head and heart, work and rest, what you want and what someone else wants. It's about healing, harmony, fine-tuning and a middle way that actually works. Coming right after Death, it's the rebuilding that happens slowly. Reversed, it points to imbalance: excess, rushing, conflicts that never settle, or being pulled to extremes.
Yes or no
Temperance pours water from cup to cup without spilling: yes, with patience and measure. Reversed, the answer is maybe, if the pace is adjusted.
In love
In a love reading, Temperance points to a balanced relationship, with mutual care and patience: a love that grows a little at a time, without drama.
If you're in a relationship, it speaks of harmony, compromise and finding middle ground in your differences. If you're single, Temperance suggests love arrives when you're at peace with yourself, not rushing and not needy.
Reversed, it points to imbalance, too many demands, the same fights on repeat, or a relationship where one person always gives in.
As feelings
As feelings, Temperance means a calm, sincere affection: this person feels at peace with you and wants to build something slowly, with no rush. Reversed, the feelings swing between intensity and distance.
At work
At work, Temperance often points to cooperation, juggling tasks well and a sustainable pace. It favors partnerships and anyone who's good at mediating. Reversed, it warns against overwork, team conflict, or impatience with a process that simply takes time.
With money
With money, Temperance calls for balance: spend and save in moderation, with no extremes. Steady habits bring results. Reversed, it shows excess, out-of-control spending or a budget that's out of balance.
In family and friendship
In family and friendship, Temperance brings harmony and the person who keeps the peace, calms things down and finds middle ground. Reversed, it shows tension from a lack of real conversation, or someone overreacting.
On the personal path
On a personal level, Temperance asks for a gentler rhythm: sleep, food, rest, work, all in moderation. Healing comes from balance, not from maximum effort. Reversed, it points to some excess that's costing you more than it's worth.
Advice
As advice, Temperance says: find the right measure. Not too much, not too little, and in whatever time it takes.
